The best embrace feedback. The best embrace collaboration. The best embrace transparency.
It is so incredibly hard, especially in Product where everyone believes their ideas are the best ideas. And this fact stops most from getting feedback, from collaborating, from exhibiting transparency.
B is NOT most.
I can honestly say, this is one of the best messages I've ever seen in my 20 year career.
β - Early... so folks know that their voices matter
β - Focused on outcomes... so folks know we aren't choosing the "coolest idea", we are going to bet on the thing that helps us achieve the outcome
β - Proactive... notice this is in the HX channel!!!
β - Cross-functional... B is a TECH LEAD. Usually you'd see this from design or product management. I'm CERTAIN the full Pre-Hire Trio discussed this (and if after posting this I get that confirmation, I'll attach them to this OGO)... but seeing a tech lead truly get in the discovery and shaping is AMAZING!!LFG!!!

There are a lot of great recorded video presenters on the team. I don't always call them out, but this one caught my eye for a couple of reasons:
- Before and After
- Being able to see the transition just adds a level of clarity that cannot be understated. It leaves you with no questions, which is the point!
- Data informed decisions
- Explaining why we took away View Profile is another incredible add to the video. As a viewer I was just nodding along
- MOBILE
- I really, really, really love that we are highlighting the mobile version. I'd like to see this become a staple in all PLC-targeted videos. It will ensure we are thinking about mobile, and it will inspire confidence given we are! Win, win, win.
Well done!!
Observation created almost 2 years agoHere is what I love about this... it is WTWT personified.
- Acknowledge that things could be better
- It is the worst when you say "hey I have a problem" and those that could help say "Just do this". It shows a lack of communication skills and/or empathy.
- Give a solution that WORKS...
- ... not a work around (we should all hate that phrase). The Schedule Now as a way to see what availability you actually have IMO is an excellent "Pro-tip". Rebrand workaround with pro-tip and everyone looks at this differently.
- Don't just say, show
- Making a demo video in this scenario makes everything so much more clear!
Excellent all around!
P.S. Only thing I'd love to have seen is this get logged as a ProductBoard insight. No Slot Available is going to solve this one scenario, yes... and it is PHENOMENAL that we showed that and linked the FigJam (I'd like to link to PB, but that is too nit-picky π)... but, the emotional need to know what the applicant will see IMO is still a worthy one to consider. So, logging this in PB would have made this flawless. But, technically speaking that is the job of a trio member. Just putting it here for those that see this and want my full analysis π

Why arenβt Premium users setting up Autopilot?
This is a question that B asked (I know others helped, and as I find out to what extent folks helped I may add them to this observation... for now, I know B was at the center of it).
β€οΈ - First, this is the right question to ask!! Product at many places is about getting features out the door. But that is NOT how we get down at CP. We...
Continuously deliver value that clients/partners love β and work for the business
... Which means we set an outcome for ourselves and we scratch, claw, and fight our way to that outcome through relentless iteration. But, that is very uncomfortable for most product folks as we were conditioned to "shut up and deliver features". The fact that this question is being asked by an IC engineer speak volumes! It is an example of the exact type of culture we need to have if we are to achieve exponential results πͺπΎππΎ
Organization of the documents/assets
β€οΈ Let's look at the titles within the document; Background on the problem (that has data), Approach to solving this problem (which orients us to what is to follow), Step 1: Brainstorm ideas/testable hypotheses about why accounts are not setting up AP , Step 3: How might we test/validate our assumptions? (which was moved to FigJam, which IMO is the appropriate place)
β€οΈ Then in the FigJam, the issues were put into an affinity map, and then organized further into what is essentially an opportunity tree.
All of this gives me tremendous confidence that we are headed in the right direction as it pertains to creating rocks that are incredibly aligned for the quarter!!
Observation created about 2 years agoThe observation
- We saw a need (which is a display of empathy and kindness as well a a great use of one of the many systems we have in place to be able to sense the state of the world) ππΎ
- We said to ourself βthere has to be a better wayβ... but instead of spinning our wheels we sought out cross departmental collaboration π
- Because of our SUSU we decided to execute on our autonomy and do a thing... communicating excellently what and why we are doing the thing π
- Not to mention the thing we are doing will have a direct impact on client value, operational efficiency, and given the association to Premium it'll have an impact on "works for the business"/viability πͺ
- Not to mention it didn't really have any negative impact on the other priorities π€―
- Finally... it actually shipped!!! π
When I say "we" or "our" I mean, you, Brittany!!!
Talk about a drop-the-mic moment before a vacation π
This was excellent... from the top to the bottom... excellent.
