Observation created about 4 years agoFeaturing:Ross h.We don't wait to be told what to do, we take initiativeWe put the team before ourselvesNow for the real shout out for Ross π
I touched on this in our all-hands already, but I wanted to share how appreciative I am of Ross taking initiative to represent all of the devs in the interviews for the DoE.
Ross organized a meeting where the devs could share qualities that were important to them in the next DoE, and/or questions we wanted to have answered. He then helped guide us in distilling our collection of random thoughts into a few questions that the two selected interviewers could use while interviewing.
I appreciated how Ross took the time to think of how we could broaden representation of our needs an engineers from just the two interviewers to the needs of the whole team. That definitely demonstrated putting the team above yourself (even before you were selected as an interviewer) and I really appreciate it!
Observation created about 4 years agoShout out to Ellie on her last day for just being a great teammate. I've really appreciated her willingness to be flexible as the Practice squad has needed to shift priorities and direction a lot in her time with us. She's always been available and ready to help when I've been stuck with front-end things (and those times have been plentiful lately). You've been such a reliable part of the team since you've been here and we will definitely miss you on Practice!
Observation created about 5 years agoFeaturing:Ross h.Kimberly H.Haley M.We recognize the opportunity in challengesWe put the team before ourselvesWe challenge ourselvesAs we all know, our friend Gardee is moving on to a new chapter in his journey. He's been an amazing teammate and leaves some pretty big shoes to fill.
Specifically for a few critical roles for Practice.
Enter Ross, Kim, and Haley to save the day!
For Practice, Haley was tag-teaming Delivery Manager with Gardee, but has agreed to take this on by herself π
Practice is a hot topic right now, and we want to communicate the progress, prepare the launches, and ensure we are decomposing/sequencing like bosses. So we asked the baddest boss in town to help out π. Hammertime Kim is coming in and helping with those roles π
Last, but most certainly not least, with Kim focusing on Practice and Platform, that left a need for Partnerships. Ross is going to flex a bit out of his comfort zone and join the Shapers Guild and take on the roles that Kim was handling for Partnerships (ensuring we are continuously delivering value and reducing risk every day with how we decompose and sequence our work while also communicating this progress spectacularly). ππΎ

Thank you all for helping us overcome, and continue our quest for greatness ππΎππΎππΎ
Observation created about 5 years agoI volunteered to review a PR of Ross' on SCORM, but since I knew nothing about SCORM (literally nothing), I asked if he could pair review it with me so that I could get a grasp of what the code was doing.
Ross took his time to thoughtfully explain SCORM to me - what it is, how it works, how its integrated into our application, and how all this fit into his PR. Never once did I feel like I was wasting his time, and he never seemed rushed, but took his time to answer all my questions and make sure I felt comfortable with SCORM before moving forward.
Not only did I feel like I was able to review the PR well, but I finally feel educated π©βπabout SCORM and will feel a lot more confident dealing with it in the future. Thanks for taking the time, Ross, to go above and beyond with increasing my knowledge and understanding!
Observation created over 5 years agoAs we've shared in previous Product All Hands and Team Shares, Ross and Josh implemented a new permission to replace our old role hierarchy. The new permission gives customers the flexibility to control which roles a role can edit and assign to people. Throughout the process Ross and Josh thoughtfully implemented the necessary changes behind the scenes. After all the pieces were in place, they removed this new permission from behind the Platform squad's feature flag this week and made it available to customers rather than holding it back until releasing Custom Roles.
Yesterday T-Mobile reported an issue because they noticed their Creators where unable to Edit Managers even though they had automatic management rights for all people and groups. What they reported was in line with how our old role hierarchy worked, but with the new permission they would be able to give Creators rights to edit Manager roles.
When they reported the issue, Stephen was already scheduling a deployment of the latest updates to T-Mobile's private instance. Allowing us to resolve their issue quickly and empowering them to configure the Creator role to meet their needs.
It is awesome to see new changes having such a positive impact, so quickly after being released! Way to go team!
